What is it myofascial release?

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a very gentle, non-invasive, hands-on therapy which releases restrictions which have formed in the connective tissue (fascia).  This advanced approach is very safe, gentle, and highly-effective in addressing numerous ailments of the body.   It also serves in helping correct posture, restore function and mobility, and reduce or eliminate pain.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the largest structure of the body, all-encompassing from head-to-toe.  Functions of this 3-dimensional web-like structure include but are not limited to:

  • the delivery of nutrients to and elimination of wastes from cells

  • the medium which energetic pathways flow (meridians)

  • the vital support of the skeletal structure

More recently, newfound interest in the western world has initiated research (still in its infancy), shedding light on the vital importance of the fascia in maintaining function, health and overall wellness.

Fascial Restrictions

Fascia tightens/restricts in response to physical and/or emotional trauma, injuries, surgery, scars, inflammation and poor posture.  This can result in misalignments, restriction of motion and pain as the fascia can exert crushing pressure of up to 2000 lbs psi on sensitive nerves, blood vessels, organs and muscles.

Fascial restrictions are created and accumulate throughout our lifetime.  If unaddressed, they continue to tighten, harden and spread.

They do not show up in many tests such as CT scans, x-rays, myelograms, electromyographs, etc., and cannot be released through traditional physical, occupational and massage therapies.
